CNM Rice is a mutant of IR-8 variety
of rice notified in the year 1978. It is grown in both kharif and rabi
season and it is mainly grown in West Bengal. There are two main
varieties are :
- NM-25
- This variety of CNM rice takes 103 days to grow in kharif
season and 148 days in rabi season.
- It is best grown in lateratic and alluvial tracts.
- The plant height is dwarf (81 cm).
- The grain is long and white.
- It is moderately resistant to blast and stem borer.
- It is susceptible to rice tungro virus, bacterial leaf
blight.
- Its yield is 40-43 quintals/hactare for kharif and 58-60
quintals/ha for rabi.
- CNM-31
- This variety of CNM rice takes 135 days to grow in Kharif
season and 155 days in rabi season.
- It is best grown in medium lands in alluvial tracts
- The plant height is semi dwarf (97 cm)
- The grain is long slender and golden.
- It is moderately resistant to bacterial leaf blight and
blast, resistant to brown spot.
- Its yield is 44-46 quintals/hactare.
