This is declared as a variety of Basmati Rice under the Seeds Act, 1966.
The scientific name of this variety is IET-8580.
Kasturi, released for the traditional basmati growing areas of Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Predesh and Himachal Pradesh.
It is best grown in irrigated areas.
It combines high-yield potential, excellent milling quality, resistance to blast and tolerance to stem borer.
Its kernel length is 6.94 mm.
Its length breadth ratio is 3.95.
Its yield is 30-35 quintals/hectare.
