Various features of this variety of rice are as follows :

PR 106 is the rice variety that is grown in Punjab.
This variety currently accounts for 80% of the area of Punjab under rice cultivation.
It was introduced in 1976.
The grain is long and white.
Its kernel length is 6.63 mm.
It is fine and aromatic.
It is considered resistant to white backed planthopper and stem rot.
It has become susceptible to both diseases, in addition to succumbing to rice leaf-folder, stemborer, hispa and many other insect pests.
